Serbia Passport Photos and Visa Photo Requirements – Rules, Guidelines, and Specifications

So, do you want to take your own passport photo or visa photo? While it is not a complicated task, there are a few rules that you have to follow so that you end up with a valid picture. Keep in mind that failure to produce an adequate passport photo is one of the most common causes of rejection. So, here is what you must keep in mind:

  • You must take your picture against a white background. A white wall or sheet should suffice. Make sure that there are no patterns or shadows, and if you want to use a sheet, it must not be see-through.
  • When choosing the environment in which to take your passport photo or visa photo, make sure that the lighting is adequate. It must not be too intense or too dark. Plus, to avoid having shadows on your face, choose a frontal source of light.
  • Make sure to keep your head straight and face forward when you take the picture. You cannot tilt or rotate it in any direction because both sides of your face must be equally visible. If you submit a portrait-style picture, it will be rejected.
  • You cannot show your teeth in your passport photo or visa photo. In fact, you cannot smile. The only acceptable facial expression is neutral.
  • Your eyes must be perfectly distinguishable in your passport photo or visa photo. You should not wear glasses at all in the picture. However, if you have clear frames, you may keep them on as long as there is no glare in the photo. Needless to say, sunglasses and eyeglasses that have tinted lenses are not permitted under any circumstances.
  • Headwear is usually forbidden in a passport photo or visa photo. However, you can keep it for religious or cultural reasons. Nobody will force you to take it off. But please remember that your face must be seen from the bottom of your chin to the top of your forehead. The headwear is not supposed to create shadows on your face, either.
  • If your everyday appearance includes a beard, you do not have to shave it off for your passport photo or visa photo. Just keep in mind that any modifications you want to make regarding your facial hair must be made before you take your picture. After all, the photo must represent your current look.

Rules and Requirements for Babies, Infants, and Newborn Passport and Visa Photos

If you travel with children, you need to take their picture too. Please note that there are no significant differences between children’s passport photos and adults’ passport photos. But since a child’s head is smaller, it can take less surface area in the picture. Below, you will find some useful tips for when you photograph your child.

  • Children’s eyes must be visible as well, which is why you must take the picture when your child is awake.
  • The most common way of photographing a baby is to lay him/her on his/her back to take the picture from above. If you do that, you have to place a white sheet underneath the baby so that the background of the photo is white.
  • Some parents choose to photograph their child in a car seat. Doing that implies covering the backrest of the chair with a white layer to achieve a white background.
  • You cannot appear in your baby’s passport photo or visa photo. Even if you hold the baby, your hands, or any part of you, cannot appear in the shot.
  • The baby cannot appear in his/her passport photo or visa photo with headwear and/or a pacifier. Any object must be removed from the shot.
